INTEGRATE MSCA DN Training Programme
Shaping the next generation of Psychedelic Therapy experts
For people living with mental health disorders, finding lasting relief can feel like an endless search. Psychedelic therapy offers new hope, but there are still many challenges before it can be widely implemented and become accessible to patients. Because both psychedelic therapy and mental disorders are complex, effective treatment requires a broad, integrated approach.
Why psychedelic therapy is challenging
Environment
It is influenced not just by the drugs themselves, but also by the environment and support in which therapy takes place.
Complexity
Mental disorders are complex, often overlapping with other conditions and affecting multiple aspects of life.
Variability
Treatment effects vary depending on the person and setting, so approaches must consider biological, psychological, and social factors.
Potential
Psychedelic therapy has the potential to help across different diagnoses, offering relief to patients in ways that traditional treatments may not.
The bottleneck
Instead of working in disciplinary siloes and working on isolated knowledge gaps – whether in the brain, clinical methods, or treatment design – we need a new generation of researchers with a holistic approach.
There is currently a lack of trained researchers who can connect the dots, and look at the problem through a broader, systemic lens. Psychedelic therapy demands a holistic perspective that brings together brain science, clinical practice, trial design, and societal context. At present, too few researchers are trained to address these scientific, clinical, and societal dimensions together.
Our solution
INTEGRATE is a 3-year training programme that equips 16 doctoral researchers with the skills and mindset needed to meet these challenges. Graduates will be able to work across disciplines, sectors, and countries to translate psychedelic therapy into meaningful solutions for mental health patients.
By the end of the INTEGRATE project, doctoral candidates will:
1. Develop an Interdisciplinary & Collaborative Mindset
2. Advance Research & Technical Skills
3. Build innovation & entrepreneurial skills
Develop knowledge of drug development, patents, and regulatory pathways. Understand business models, startups, and market needs within the psychedelic field.
4. Develop Leadership and Teamwork Skills
5. Learn to Communicate Research Effectively
