Marcelo was born and raised in Cusco, Perú. At the age of 17 he moved to Lima to pursue his undergraduate studies, earning a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the National University of Engineering. He later moved to Brazil, where he completed a Master of Science in Neurophysics at the State University of Campinas. He is currently pursuing a PhD focused on identifying EEG and fMRI predictive biomarkers of treatment response to psychedelic therapies and on understanding the neurobiological mechanisms underlying the antidepressant effects of compounds such as psilocybin and ketamine. In his free time, he enjoys mountain trekking, playing football, and collecting minerals.
